Since the age of 3 Barbara Thornton has known she would be an artist.

Classically trained at North Texas State University and The Atlanta Georgia College of Art, she has worked in many medias, including pencil painting, printmaking, watercolor, and oil, exhibiting in art shows all over the country.

Barbaras subject matter has always been people and her accuracy with a likeness and catching the personality of her subjects is without parallel. Ms. Thornton attributes her skill to the fact that since the age of 17, she has supported herself by doing quick portraits and caricatures for corporate clients, at parties, special events and festivals, as well as pursuing her serious work. For 10 years she owned and operated the quick sketch concession at Sesame Place, (Sesame Place is a theme park based on the Sesame Street TV show), where she had a staff of 13 artists, all hired and trained by her.

She travels all over North America for her corporate clients but limits her oil portrait commissions to a smaller area as she prefers to paint from life. For her portrait subjects convenience she travels to their home for the sittings.

Barbara and her husband, Bob live in New Hope, Pa., and are partners in a beautiful bed and breakfast 3 miles from there in Stockton,NJ., The Woolverton Inn. Please visit the website at
